Near-Infrared (NIR)
Quick definition
Near-infrared is invisible light that penetrates deeper than red light and is often used to support repair and inflammation control.
The Science
Near-infrared light sits beyond the visible red range, so you usually cannot see it with the naked eye. In LED devices it is used to reach deeper tissue than visible red light can reach on its own.
Why it matters for your skin
If a mask includes near-infrared as well as red light, it is usually trying to do more than just surface-level cosmetic work.
